About Bristol Dog School
Bristol Dog School was set up by Clair Litster Huckle BSc (hons). With the aim of teaching owners how to effectively communicate and understsnd their dogs emotions while having fun using positive reward based methods.
Bristol Dog School has smaller class numbers that are calmer and are better for learning and easier for us to get to teach puppy and give a little more attention.
Reward based training is paying your dog for a job well done often called Positive Reinforcement (+R) it rewards, reinforces. desired behaviour so this behaviour is more likely to be expressed.. Unwanted behaviours are not rewarded and are then forgotten this avoids using punishment or aversive training methods and tools.
The reason we use reward based training is because science accepts that an action learned in a nice way that is reinforced with something the dog finds rewarding is leaned and retained for longer, alternatively an action punished may reduce a behaviour for a short time but will never stop as the punishment may become rewarding to the dog if for example all it wants is attention or it will get used to the punisher thus is looses it's effect. This means punishers often become more severe.
we at bristol dog school will never punish your dog.
